Our newspaper reports on our visit!

On the 29th of January, 4El got an email inviting them to the collection to see the plesiosaur, since they are a lucky class. The collection is where they study old, broken and precious bones and is light and attractive.

Our weekly reflection

This week we have been working on newspapers. Here's our advice on how to write a great article:

1) Write a headline. They're 3-5 words and they tell you the whole story. The headline has to Be short and punchy. It has to make the reader want to read it. It has to be easy read and descriptive. You need to chose a topic that will excite the readers. It stands out because its bold and bigger. It's all capital letters. It could use rhyme and alliteration.

2) Write an orientation. It needs to make the reader read on and it needs to be short and punchy. It's got to be interesting and it's got to to summarise the story. This means tell the main parts.

3) Write the main body. This is the main part of the article. It's written in the past tense and its longer because its where you put all the detail. This part answers the questions who, what, where, when and why. We tried hard this week to write in complex sentences with clauses.

4) Write a reorientation: This is the end of the story. It needs to make you want to buy the next week's paper and it needs to be exciting. It needs to bring you up to date with the story. Therefore, we write it in the present tense.

Our bullying workshop

Today we learned an important lesson about bullying:

Each and every person has the right to feel safe in their life and good about themselves.

Our thoughts:

I stick around a friend or someone I can trust.
Oakley

I'll tell them that they are making me unhappy and then walk away.
Caitlin

Tell a teacher or a friend.
Chloe

Tell a teacher and tell your family.
Kea and Katie W

Stand up tall, find a friend or someone you can trust. Reporting bullying isn't telling tales or 'grassing'. You have the right to be safe and you shouldn't be silent if you feel unsafe.

Our messages about bullies:

Don't be afraid to stand up to bullies!
Savannah

Do the stop action if anyone is coming to bully you.
Maryam

If you feel brave, stand up to them.
Caitlin

We've got the power in us, like our song!
Owen H

We have been talking about how to keep away from bullies and how to defend yourself. I'm going to stick with a group of friends, not to bully the bullies but to make sure they stay away.
Oakley

I'm going to defend myself by sticking with a friend.
Holli

I'm going to find a friend and play with them and stay with them.
Jacob

Don't feel like you're alone if you're getting bullied.
Georgia

If you get bullied, stick with a friend. If the bullies come up to your face and start shouting, put your hands up and say NO!

Welcome back!

Welcome back to a new school term!

We have had a fantastic day and all enjoyed sharing our best memories from the holiday.

This week we are focusing on the presentation of our work. We know that it is important to take pride in all our work, and to make sure that our work is clear and readable. We are all trying hard to join our handwriting.

In numeracy, our table of the week is the 4 times table. Please bring in learning credits to show that you have been practising. You could also try:
