S.O.S!!!

After falling off their yacht, the Peggy Sue, 4EL woke up to find themselves on a tropical island.

"How are we going to survive?" the children asked as we explored the lush paradise. We needed to find water, food and shelter fast or we would be in big trouble!

The children had to use all of their resourcefulness and team working skills to build shelters, filter water, test foods and attempt to flag down a passing aeroplane!!

Allotment visit

After half term we found that the allotment had changed, our plants were taller, but so were the weeds! We had also had a visit from the slugs and snails and all of the lettuces had been eaten!

Thank you Pennells!

We are so grateful to Pennell's garden centre for their very generous donation to our school allotment.

Well done to Carla who wrote a persuasive letter to Pennell's!

Allotment visit - week 4

This week we worked incredibly hard at the allotment!

We have landed so many new plants that have been kindly donated to us.

We also noticed how much many of the plants had grown. We used our measuring skills to investigate this. We also measured the amount of water that we used on the allotment.

Our allotment - week 2

After that, we went to ask some people some questions about organic food. As we went round we saw organic food growing in poly tunnels. Also the other allotment holders use chemicals on there plants and mostly people uses herbicides to kill bugs and weeds. As we went round we met some friendly people so we asked them some questions about organic food. As well we found out loads of facts about organic food because we might grow a organic allotment. As we went round we saw cabbages in a poly tunnel so I asked them why there in there and they replied.they said that the cabbages is in the poly tunnel because it stops insects eating the plants. As well we saw flags on the barriers until Mr Linton says it is a bird scarer. After we all asked them questions then we went weeding  agin because weeds are coming back faster than ever! As well we planted some Broad beans that are starting to grow. Also I can't wait to go back to the allotment again because it is really fun!

Science week - Tuesday

Today 4EL have been investigating the science of colour!

We have been asking the BIG questions....

HOW DO WE SEE COLOUR?

We have been using colour science to make natural dyes, just like the Vikings did!

Comment your ideas below....

When the light source hits a colour, the colour reflects on your eye.
Aiden

When the light isn't on, you can't see colours. When the light is on you can see colours.
Connor

You need to have a light source to see the colours. If an object is red, it absorbs all colours apart from red. The red bounces off and into our eyes. Our eyes will tell our brain what colour the object is.
